  • Advice on a 95 750

I am looking at this Kat here:

I know that I'm not paying $2k for a bike that NADA lists at $1730 in very good condition. What I'm wondering is what our Kat Elders would suggest. I've been looking at 03+ up to this point so I'm not up to speed on the Pre's value outside of NADA.

I'll bet you can score it for $1500 if you had the cash in hand. It seems to be a really clean bike, and it's not even broken in yet. imho
sigpicLife throws you curves......enjoy the ones you get when riding.

Can't speak too much about the price other than to make an offer and be prepared to walk away if the seller wants too much. The pipes and jet kit may be an excuse for him to try to talk the price up but you can counter that with the argument that the bike needs an exhaust and carbs to run at all so unless the originals are included in the sale, they're just parts required to make the bike run. You can also take the approach that you're going to have to replace both tires, not just the front because they need to match. (The tread on a front tire is designed to clear water, etc. for the rear tire so you don't want to mix tread patterns.)

I can tell you that with the exception of the purple wheels, that's a good looking bike. I can also say that I loved my '95 750. I had the Yoshi exhaust, too but without the jet kit. IMO, the 750 is a more comfortable, more capable bike than the 600 and the pre-98 bikes make more power than the 98+ models. I think the pre bikes look better, too. The seat may have been re-covered but they should have replaced the padding, too. As that ages it gets less resilient and you end up more likely to bottom out on the seat pan when you hit a bump. My answer was to buy a used Corbin which I loved.

That's kind of what I was thinking, WB. I was planning to offer $1500 since it is clean looking. Of course, I'm going to want to see it running and what not. It's about an hour from where I live so I want to be sure when I get there.

Look for oil leaks or other signs of crash damage. That's not the original paint. Also, you need to test ride before buying. (The seller will probably want cash in hand first so expect that.) Make sure 2nd gear is working smoothly. I'd drive an hour to look at that, though.

            What I KNOW...

If you bought a similiar model listed for the $1200 most people will tell you they are worth... you would put another $1500 into it to make it match what you listed in that CL ad.

That's if the ad is truthful about it's condition.

Now, how you want to interpret that is up to you, but... If I was in the market I'd have a conversation with the guy. Most times, Cash talks.

I'd go 1200 at the most without looking at the ad. Those bikes are common enough that you can always find another seller who needs the cash more.
