there are some really good deals out there on 2000-2002 bikes, but gosh i don't know if I could get used to the stinger tail. By the time I paid to swap it for the 03+ style, i might as well have just bought an 03+. Do you guys like the stinger tail?

Also, I read an article the other day that said for the 03 model year, besides the tail update and different seat fabric, that the katana got a new mud guard on the front tire. I haven't been able to detect any difference. whats different about the mud guard?

I would just try to get an 03+, personally. Not worth the time/money to do the tail swap IMHO.

It doesn't have the little indents on it like the 98-02 models, it's a smooth fender. It also sits in slightly wider triples/forks.

I'm not a huge fan of it but from where I'm sitting I can't see it.

The stinger tail. I always called it the dog boner tail light. I guess stinger works.

The canine crayola tail is hideous.

Then again, I wouldnt pay $200 more for the 03+ model just to get the tail.

Buy whatever bike is the best bike for the money, and if it happens to be a pre 03 model just swap the tail...it's not difficult...
