  • Hi rev after bike is warm?

So I have not been sometime and spent most of my summer slowly working on my Katana. I have painted all the fairings as well for the gas tank. So now that the bike is back together I noticed that after I start the bike and let it warm up it still is running at a high rpms. I did this when I first bought the bike but I thought it was due to it sitting up for so long from the owner before me. I am going to be doing some research on it and thought what better place to start then a forum full of Katana riders.
One more thing I noticed a white knob that is on the left hand side of the motor close the carbs. I am not sure right off the top of my head if that helps adjust the idle on the bike or not? So I have not touched it till I am sure what it is exactly. I am learning more about my bike like I said earlier.

I will be getting a repair manual soon but if I can get some help before this greatly will be thankful.

The knob adjusts the idle. When's the last time the carbs were serviced? Sounds like they might be dirty. Also check that the choke is getting hung up. Mine did that once and wouldn't let the idle drop.

If the bike sat then definitely clean the carbs.

Edit: You can dl the manual from the wiki section.

Turning that knob will adjust the idle. next time you start the bike let it warm up for a few minites and then turn the knob couter-clockwise to lower the idle

I bought the bike in Feb of this year and from what I got from the owner before me it sat for a year or so. The gas tank that came with the bike was rusted due to gas sitting in the tank for the time it sat. I replaced the tank and the peacock as well. I have not had the carbs cleaned cause I was told that they have been cleaned after her drained all the gas from the oringinal tank on the bike trying to get running again. However it could not hurt to have it done. I have also thought about running some cleaner threw the fuel system. I will look adjusting the idle see if that does help with the issue.

Cleaner will not remove the rust in the carbs ...
