  • Float adjustment help

So I want to check my floats and adjust in my 99 Kat. How do I set the height on them and what tools do I need?

There is a post where someone used a CD case and made a tool, I use a micrometer.
If you download the carbs 102 manual it explains how to do it.

My float height adjusting tool of choice is an old credit card.

There's quite a few ways to make your own. Like TRPUT says, an old credit card works just fine. Here's the actual tool

I think i'll go to the parts store and buy a float ruler for cars. The credit card thing? How would i know how to measure the float with that? The manual calls for 13mm.

You measure 13mm and notch the old card at 13mm. That way when you hold the card against the gasket surface, the float should line up with the cut out.

I've built a tool using an old AMA card. In addition to notching it at 13mm you also have to cut a larger notch in the middle to clear the center of the float assembly. No big deal but look for it so you won't be surprised.

Float adjustment is done with the carbs right side up and the float hanging down?

The floats need to be tilted.

... so they JUST seat but without added weight.

NO. Stop. Carbs need to be UPSIDE down with the floats LIGHTLY touching the little float tit.

From the sticky, it appears they have to be on the side with floats halfway in and to measure there. So u measure from the bottom of the float halfway seated to the carb body? Sorry, it's my first time doing it and want to do it right.

They don't have to be completely upside down, what you are looking for is gravity to work with you. I tilt them until they just BARELY touch the little tit on the float valve. Then you measure from the metal where the bowl seats to, to the highest part of the float. That is the middle. Make sure the floats are seated in all the way before you set them.

Meaning the part that moves, not the frame that doesn't move. Seems obvious but...
