  • 00 Katana Wont Start, Help!

    Hi there everyone, great forum.
Ive been on here and there looking at bikes, troubleshooting, etc.
Been riding my Katana about 6 months. No issues at all.
However, Now I need some help...

    Bike wont start.
About a month ago, I took off the fairings, wheels, changed out the brake and clutch levers, headlights, tailights, etc. and when I put everything back together, the bike wouldnt start.. So, I push started it twice and picked up a new battery.
    Installed it and Nothing.
No click to the solenoid, etc. So... I came on here. Took the bike apart again, checked all the fuses, main fuses too. Everything is clean and tight.

I turn the key and the fan comes on and everything else lights up, but nothing when I hit the start button. Yes I checked the kill switch, made sure its in neutral, tried it with the kickstand up, etc..

So what next? Do I turn the key while squeezing the clutch and hitting the start button while holding a screwdriver over the solenoid? Seems kinda like an impromptu firewroks display but... What do you guys suggest?

Im at a loss since I didnt mess with the electrical at all...
    Thanks in advance!!

First thought is to check the safety switch on the clutch. You said you switched out the lever, make sure everything is in there correctly

Thanks for the response guys. Question though, I did push start and ride the bike twice with no issues at all. Im thinking if it was a kill switch at the clutch lever or kickstand, one of them wouldve killed the motor?
Or are those solely devoted to tbe starting of the bike?
        Thanks again for your help!

Clutch safety switch, wont let the bike start. Jump the connection and go riding.

You said "the fan starts up" what fan? Do you have a cali model bike

Rip it off, the fan will kill a battery.

Followed your guys advice and cleaned the sensor, no start. took the new clutch lever off, old clutch lever on... little brake clean, and I hear the wonderful sound of the starter. Talk about music to my ears after 48 hours of wtf.
                Shouldve asked on Friday morning!!!
Thank you to all! Im off to re-assemble the bike.
