  • Filling up my tank, please help...

i know this is a stupid/odd question...but im gunna ask anyway. how in the world does one fill up the fuel tank on a bike? i understand the concept but when is full full? do i shove the nozzle all the way in, leave it hang out a little? the safety shut off works great on a car but how do i not overfill my tank? i want to figure out my mpg but can never seem to fill it up to the same level and my last fill up made my level guage sweep 1/4 inch past full and would rather not have any spillage.
    thanks in advance

I usually fill up will sitting on the bike (always use a card so no need to go in a pay cash)...but with the bike sitting straight up I just look in the fill cap and slowly fill up till it is about a quarter inch from reaching the fill cap neck area

I look at it as it's filling.

Never simply shove a nozzle into your tank like you do a car. Open it up and keep your eye on it as it recieves fuel.....slowly so it doesn't splash around. Stop when you slowly get to the max.

I fill up with the bike on the sidestand. I stop filling when the fuel level reaches the bottom of the fill neck.

does that not then cause your guage to read above full?

                But so does my car.

Don't trust that gauge. Some bike's don't even have them. My 05 GSXR 750 didn't.

ive read on here that a katanas gauge is only acurate when full or empty. mine seems to be consistant,i usually ride it down into the middle of reserve . and i get about 170-180 a tank .
