You probably have something holding the butterfly plates open. Like the clamp on one of the boots for the carbs, or a mis adjusted throttle cable.

well i took a look and adjusted the throttle all the way down then checked the butterflys and looked at the idle screw it was all the way tight and not touching the rod that adjust the butterflys so i adjusted them all down so they were even and closed all te way fired it up and still got the same thing

          Yes,

Do over.... You still have something holding the throttle plates open. Pull the carbs and make sure all 4 plates can fully and completely close. If you let them snap shut, do they close? If after it snaps closed, is there is resistance or clicking noise when you open them back up?

Have you synced the carbs so that 1 butterfly isn't holding open the other 3?

Did you loosen the throttle cable?

another quicker way to find your problem

Remove the seat and take the airbfikters off. Get a flashlight, turn gas off at pitchcock, shine the flashlight in 1carb at a time lookiffng for the butterflies to close completely by first applying full choke and then turn choke off, should make sure the butterflies don't hang and choke cable is operating properly. Once that checks out, open the throttle ad watch for smooth movement of the butterflies opening and closing. Might consider spraying some Carb cleaner on all Carb links while your there, leave filets off crank see if problem is still there, on my 91 750 Kate there's a rod with a twist adjustment at the end, located on left side of bike 5 inches below pitchcock. Make sure its not too loose or tight. If the problem still exists, you'll need remove carbs and check float levels, idle circuits, check flow by blowing air threw inlet, see if its clogged. Whatever you do, once you get it down to around 5000 rpms put NEW 93 octane fuel and a cheaper bottle of fuel system cleaner to put in tank. Mine was acting up a couple months ago, once I got new fuel and fuel cleaner in tank, fixed the problem. Good luck man, hope this helps

Dude, even I have no idea what that guy said. And what I do know he said was wrong. For example, Choke has nothing to do with the butterfly plates, at all. Anyways...

If you got dirty fuel in the carbs, you probably have a dirty tank as well. I'd clean the tank, petcock, fuel lines, and carbs all at one time.

I would check your cam chain tensioner spring, and then I would do a valve adjustment. It's pretty simple to do at this piont of disassembly.

well i finaly got it back together and running.but it starts real hard i have to take the carb overflow tube that hangs in front of the airbox and blow in to it to get it started and it seams like it takes alot to get her warmed up.u hit the throttle and the rev is delayed inless u let it run with the choke on for like 15 min.couild i possible need to adjust the a/f screws more i turned them 1.75 from full in?
