  • Carb Cleaning at Dealer-How Much$

I recentely purchased a 2002 Katana 750 with 2864 miles on it for a song. The bike sat for 8 years and would not start. The carbs need to be rebuilt. The only shop locally that has a reputation is the local dealer. I bought the bike there as they quoted $400-500 to rebuild. Now that they have the bike they are trying to say it needs $600 in parts above the quote and they did not take the carbs off yet. My question to you all is how much should a cleaning cost? $1100 just seems way high to me. I'm kind of ticked that the dealer just quoted labor with no parts. I understand that the bike might need some parts but with such low miles should I really need every part for a rebuild? Please chime in and let me know what this should cost.

so they sold you the bike then quoted you 600 for parts without even getting into the motor, sounds like they scammed you, and if you bought it from them they should have done the carbs if they were a half way decent dealer
never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to there level and beat you with experience.

No, the dealer did not sell me the bike, bought it as a private sale. My only real option for repair is to do it myself (don't have the know how or time) or the dealer. Dealer said they could do it for 400-500 on the phone now they said the quote did not include parts and want $1100.

$400 is about right if they are just doing carbs and you took the whole bike in to them. At least that is what they charge here. $600 extra in parts and they haven't looked at the carbs means they have found other things. If you took it in there for just the carbs, tell them to shove it up their a$$ and fix the carbs, as that is what you asked them to do. You could even PM arsenic on here and he can direct you toward the parts so you can bring them to the dealer and they can't say you didn't have what they needed.

Yeah it was rough. It was my last option and had to do it. I went through them myself, and with friends who had done it to their bikes. But with summer coming and all of them leaving to go home and my bike still not running i had bite the bullet. Hindsight is 20/20 right?

Also, that was before i joined here and realized the amount of support!

I just got mine out of the shop after three months just to have the carbs cleaned and rebuilt took waaayyy to long and still its not running after i broght it in to have it fixed. Anyways that should should cost about 80 for 4 carb rebuild kits together ! Then the job itself maybe 150 and to clean another 50 , all depends on how much they charge for labor. I paid 425 but had the carbs Cleaned,Synced,Rebuilt and all my gaskets replaced. Mechanics at dealerships will rob you , if theres a local bike shop id just take it there.

also sry just saw you already had it done , my bad hope it all worked out
