  • Picked up a Blast... Still have the Kat.

Ended up trading my Explorer 4x4 for a modded-out Buell Blast this weekend.

Good for about 55hp, apparently. 515cc kit, iridium plug, HD clutch, K&N pro intake, V&H Exhaust... this little thing is a damn riot to ride! Definitely not as fast as the Kat, though, but way easier to manage.

So now what I'm gonna do is turn the red Katana shown here:

Into mark II of the black and blue Katana, I think. I'm gonna transfer the carbs from my dead Kat to this one, and find out how the red one runs. Depending on whether or not it is a blue smokescreen when I fire it up will determine whether they both go up for sale for parts, but much of my blue Katana is going to be going up for sale.

    Red Kat is a 1989 600, blue Katana is a 1990 600.

Here's hoping I can find some way to combine the two non-running Kats into one functional unit.

never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to there level and beat you with experience.

that just applies to 1988 models, which are a whole other animal- the 1989 we have is close enough to my 90 that it ought to work and I have all the related components to cross them over anyways

toy is definitely the right word though; after riding my Kat for so long, this Blast is so light it feels like a plaything. What a difference 100lb and weight distribution make.

I agree completely; the back end of the bike itself isn't half bad, but that hideous single 7" round HAS to go. On another note, at the same time, re: closing time... it's still better going home with a butterface than accepting defeat and going home alone, if you know what I'm saying. It's not like I'm taking a whale home.

But it's not like that's a problem that's terribly hard to solve.
              I already ordered this.

My next door neighbor has a comparable late-model Ninja (not sure if it's a 250 or 500 - it's one of the smaller ones) and hands down the Buell wins in nearly every category except 70-95mph. Bigger seat, more cushion, easier maintenance, bigger brakes, better suspension. But the Ninja gets a tach and I don't. Oh well, I ordered one of those, too. It surprisingly is not awful 2-up, but I wish I had some grab bars for my lady besides just the strap.

My younger brother decided to skip out on the lease and try to screw me on rent so now I'm taking his red Katana from him, and using the good bits of mine to fix that bike, which will then get a coat of blue.
