  • Suzuki Katana helmets on sale in Tn

There is a place here in town (Johnson city Tn just off of I26 & I81) that has factory Kat helms (Shoei Brand) on sale for around $80 if anyone is interested in them. I have one.

Its on the way for some of you on your way to the rally, so I thought I'd put the word out on them. Jim's Motorcycle sales is the place their website is http://www.jimsmotorcyclesales.com/ but I don't think he has them listed the site.

I was going to say... I dont think I'd trust that on my dome skillet. Simple enough to paint or have graphics made... not so simple to un-do brain trauma.

Even if it's new in the box, you run the chance of the padding degrading, or the shell breaking down.

He says they had them rechecked B4 putting them up for sale there a pretty old shop doubt they would risk their reputation to sale a few helmets .

As far as painting goes, had a paint and body shop tell me that painting helmets degrades the outer shell and they won"t do it, not sure how true that is but its what they said.

Besides even if its not worn, it makes a good living room decoration. =')

I'm not sure how you "check" a helmet for age.

Age just... happens... not really any tests for it.

an x ray would show you that there is still material there but not that it is breaking down or not.

You got taken here and shoudl not wear that helmet or return it.

If you call up the manufactorer they woudl tell you not to wear it as well. Just no longer safe.....

                          From Shoei

W-1 is not a safety rating, you will find the Snell sticker if the helmet is Snell rated inside the helmet under the padding. You will also find a production date there as well. Recommended service life of a helmet is 5 years. The helmet appears to be an RF-R which were discontinued in 2000. On the long chinstrap cover of your helmet on the vinyl portion that faces away from the skin with the Shoei logo embossed into it. Directly under the logo will be the model of your helmet.

See, even Shoei says not to buy it
90% of motorcycle forum members do not have a service manual for their bike.

                              "Service Life" = In use.

It's the constant use and compression from use, exposure to weather, and oils/sweat combined that causes the break down in the padding. When the helmet fits looser, it doesn't work as well.

The internal shell doesn't "break down" with just age... for gods sake, this is why so many people are against the use of styrofoam at all... it NEVER breaks down.

                              Jus sayn...
