  • jet removal on bike

Does anyone know if the main and idle speed jets can be removed without taking the carbs off the bike? Is there room to get a short screwdriver in there on a 2006 Kat 600?

to remove any jets from a carburator you usually have to remove the bowls on a lot of mikuni's there is a drain plug on the bottom that can get you to the main jet but i don't know on yours but i bet someone on here does idle you will have to remove the bowls most likely which is waaay easier to remove the carbs any reason why you dont want to?
never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to there level and beat you with experience.

yes I know that the float bowls need to come off first. Just seems like it would be easier to remove the float bowls and jets, clean and replace without pulling the carbs and throttle, choke, fuel tank, etc. I may be wrong.........

No, you will have to remove the carbs. Just take your time, take note of all the vac lines and everything that you remove. Clean the jets real good with guitar string or electrical wire (clean the pilot jets too). Also clean the needles and diaphrams.

Naw, I have been using 16 gauge electrical wire for years, works like a charm without damaging any part of the jets.

I don't normally make comments like this... but SRSLY?!!?!?

              whats next?

"Can I change my tire without removing the wheel from the bike?"

y'all need to download the service manual, and read it.. especially if yer not familiar with your motorcycles mechanical workings at all.

you will not get the carbs thoroughly clean without dipping them and the jests in carb cleaner.
If using a wire to scrub them (jets) clean works for you that's cool but I would not do it on my carbs no matter how easy and fast it is.

do not dip them in carb cleaner without removing the butterfly shaft orings and diaphram as it can damage them, that goes for all non metal parts in the carb

To the genius who started his post with "seriously", I am quite familiar with the carbs and since the bike has been sitting and will not idle but will run with the enrichener opened I would suspect that a plugged idle or pilot jet is the culprit. So , no, I don't want to pull them off if I can get to the float bowls and jets from below...............

                      Anything rubber I absolutely agree...

All of the hard plastics will not be effected by the carb dip or cleaner. FYI. (floats, float rails, needle oring, spring seat, so on).

While JB's incredulous response may have touched a button with your feelings... he's absolutely correct. You need to remove them, soak them, and remember that there are half a dozen different ports/tubes/passages the fuel and air have to go through that could also be stopped up beyond just the pilot jet, and that are causing the same issue.

I am fully aware of the number of internal passages but have actually experienced this problem before and corrected it with a simple jet clean.....
It would be helpful if someone could just tell me if there is clearance....

OMG how many times do we have to say it ?! You MUST remove the carbs. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO CLEAN THE JETS WITH THE CARBS INSTALLED.

asking about removing the jets with the carbs installed; not cleaning them on the bike!......why is that so hard to understand? I'll take a look for myself and let you know if it was doable........
