  • Seat removal

I just finished building my 2006 Kat 600...looks very nice IMHO but for some reason after fitting the seat the freakin seat lock will not let me engage the seat.

Does anyone know how to get the seat off without using the key lock for the seat? From what i have found, there are 2 ways....1) cut a hole in the fender and 2) use two screwdrivers and pry the fitting open. Dont really wanna do either as it is a brand spanking new paint job.

    Any other options?

if you can remove the undertail you can get to it i honestly have no idea if you can on that model as i have a pre but you should be able to get to the latch if you can
never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to there level and beat you with experience.

If you get your fingers under the front of the seat, and yank enough while bending the seat up, it'll come. The seat wont break. I watched one of my friends do it on his post Kat last summer. He locked his key under the seat, and he only had that key.

Dont jerk the seat, use steady force, and the plastic lip that fits under the gas tank will flex (as will the whole seat) and slide out. You should be good then.

            dito on this.

I had to do the same thing and it worked. I thought I would brake the seat but it worked fine.

So I puled and pulled and pulled and finally got the front of the seat off. I propped the seat up and uscrewed the bracket that holds the seat to the lock mechanism (10mm). Then lifted the seat off of the bracket.

I then noticed that the pulley on the lock mechanism wasnt seated properly, causing the latch not to engage. I reseated the pulley and voila....it works..... I lubed everything up and checked to make sure everything was working properly. I think I rehecked it about 50 times before I remounted the seat, just to make sure.

                    Thanks everyone. I'm riding tomorrow!
