I didn't want to thread jack someone else's thread, but they posted something that reminded me of a few instances I've dealt with before as a rider. The "Guilt by association" aspect of being a motorcycle rider and having to deal with the "words of advice" from others due to other motorcyclists.
This is what reminded me of a few of the instances I've delt with...
My most recent example...
Accident scene... South bound motorcyclist traveling on a long straight (speed limit drops from 55mph to 35mph towards the end of this straight) doesn't make the curve at the end due to high speed, ends up in the ditch. Obvious they paniced and locked up the rear wheel and didn't even turn for the curve at all.
Wife and I approach heading north. We are in the 35 mph section of the road and there are a few curves before the accident, and we are travelling the speed limit. Round the final curve to the accident and see the HP car with lights on and a wrecker ahead about 50 yards. I stop (not really even an emergency fast stop, just slow down and turn the key off, road is fully blocked).
Officer looks over and and starts a fast walk toward me with a serious grimace on his face. He's saying something, I can't here him from how far away he is with my helmet on (again, it's 50 yards away to the wrecker and his car).
So we do this a couple times... Him "warble warble warble", Me "Huh? I can't hear you from there with this helmet on!" as I'm starting to take the helmet off to see what is going on.
He finally gets up and in a very serious and what seems to be a knowingly authoritative way says... " You need to slow those things way down, one boy is already in the hospital. You wanna end up with him or in jail!?!"
Me: "WTF, I was doing the speed limit?!?"
Officer: "I SAID SLOW IT DOWN!"
Me: "Seriously, **** off. I was doing the damn speed limit!"
Officer: "You better slow it down or I'll put your *** in jail!"
Me: " You mean... like the speed limit?! "
Officer: " I said SLOW DOWN!"
Me: "Yes sir, I'll continue to obey the low and go the SPEED LIMIT or under."
Officer: "move on." and waves me by as the wrecker is now not blocking the road.
I put my helmet on... drove on doing the speed limit ... same as before, shaking my head a bit in disbelief.
I could give other examples...
Hit by an idiot biker as I'm sitting in a parking lot ready to pull out onto the road. Witnesses all say "They were both hot rodding and popping wheelies"..... I wasn't even on the bike when the idiot was seen doing that, but.... great.
Sitting at a gas station when a SS bike goes by at high speed, about 1 min later an officer goes by at high speed with lights on.... I'm pumping gas into the tank when I see this. Walk back out of the gas station after paying to see the officer sitting behind my bike and pizzed off.
Anyways... just remembering a few of the "guilt by association" situations I've had just because I ride a motorcycle. What about you guys?
