  • Key Code for 97 Katana

I've lost the key to my 97 Katana 600. I read that the key code to have a dupe made was located somewhere on the ignition block.

I took the fairings off and found multiple codes, I called my local dealer to get more information on making a new key and he told me none of them sounded like key codes.

Does anyone know what format or sequence this key code may look like? When I asked the dealer he didn't know, which made me question his first response.

Likewise, has anyone experienced this as well and could give me any tips on how to get a key made?

    Thanks for your time!

You best bet would be to take the lock cylinder to a locksmith and get a key made.

The key code is on the bottom of the ignition switch. Take the ignition switch off, take it to a locksmith. Pay him and get a lot of spares made.

How many digits or letters is the code? I'm in the same boat, lost the key the day I bought the thing. From what I've read, in order to get a key without the code you need to take the whole bike to a GOOD locksmith. You need to have the gas cap and the ignition in order to get a master key. They are keyed differently, so the tumblers in both add up to 1 master.

uuummmm no. You have to take the ignition switch to a locksmith and get a key cut. I've done it, many times.

And that key works with the gas cap and all the other locks as well?

So i don't know if this can be legally answered, but is it possible to get the bike running without the key (don't wanna say hotwire, lol) while not damaging the ignition? I can get it done cheaper if I can get the bike to the locksmith instead of the locksmith coming to the bike. I know that sounds bad, but I do own my bike. Just trying to save money.

Yeah I did, I just thought it may have been better to take the whole bike just in case. Got 2 keys made. One is in a safe place.
