  • Kat wont run, fuel issue?

My 96 Katana wont keep running. I just put a new battery in her today, and I got her to run for about 1 min with the choke full on before she died when I tried to turn off the choke. Now she kicks over, and will attempt to run for about a cycle, but cant continue. Ive tried prime, res, on and various throttle settings.
I think it has something to do with the fuel. I took off the tank a few times in the past days. The first time fuel came out of the hose that comes out of PRI on the petcock. After this first time fuel has not been in this hose. How do you check if fuel is getting to the cylinders? any quick fix that I forgot to do?

I'd venture to say you might have a kink at the petcock. Double check the one at the rear that does an almost 90 degree turn.
sigpicLife throws you curves......enjoy the ones you get when riding.

Well the fuel should always come out of the petcock when turned to prime. Maybe take the hose off and check. Check the hoses again maybe and make sure everything is routing nicely and where it should.

I just checked the lines and they seem to be fine. Fuel was in the hose this time I checked, but it still wont keep running. Ill go through the whole list of starting issues.

Check the fuel connections wiki to make sure as well:

My Kat would basically die in 4th and up when really going, when I first got it, I yanked the tank and it turned out the dude before me just had the hoses going any where he pleased. Routed them properly and she ran way better.

Another thing might just be the carbs. Get them cleaned/synced and that could make a world of difference. Also check the airbox is seated on the carbs nicely. That isn't really mentioned here, but that was an issue for me due to my noobness and that made a huge difference for me. Your bike cranks over so that probably mean the complicated electrical **** is probably not as much of an issue.
