  • 06 Ninja 650r Over my 91 kat 600??

I have the opportunity to purchase a non running 06 650r with only 4k miles on it for super cheap. I could probably bring it back for really cheap too. But I can cant keep both

My question is would I be taking a step back by getting this bike??? I am looking for a newer bike that doesnt have a bunch of old bike quirks. I want a bike that handles really well BUT has some git up and go.. Fuel injected ect..

Wikipedia tells me that my bike has 86hp and the ninja 650r has 71hp and they are roughly the same weight.

    thoughts or opinions

This depends on what you really need your bike for. ninja 650r is a nice bike...
    For 2 up riding... kat.
Fuel injection to me is a huge perk.... I'm above 4000 ft elevation every other month though.
    Both have comparable suckpension.
For freeway cruising katana would be my choice.
For urban streets i would prefer the 650.
Please, Just go home, relax, and have a think or two... hell... have as many as you can handle! It'll do all of us some good.

i think wikipedia is off with those hp numbers. i think but not sure the kat. hp rang is in the mid ti low 70s to. i my 750 has less than 100 hp, so the 600 should be about 10-20 less than the 750. someone on here will have exact numbers. but 86hp on the 600 is a bit of a long shot.

        Post 600 - 73HP
        Post 750 - 92HP
        Pre 750 - about 100 - 106HP depending on market
So pre 600 probably had about 86HP and about 50Nm and weighed about 460 lbs

        However, a 91 Kat 600 probably doesn't have 86HP now.

        The Ninja is about 390 lbs / 64.8HP / 60nM

I would say 70 lbs is a significant weight difference, so less HP but more torque would probably see it perform at least equally well.

Not sure of your market, but the early Ninja 650s here (called the ER6F) didn't even have a fuel gauge.

        Twin vs I4 ??

I looked at a Ninja before I bought my 05 750, so the 750 won. Partly because it seemed a bigger bike that fitted me better, and partly because my pre had served me well. Between a 20 year old 600F and a 5 year old Ninja, I would probably sway towards the Ninja.

But, as always ... Your ride ... your money ... your decision. And a nice decision it is too.

Most manufacturers use crank horsepower as it is a larger number. In real life we use rear wheel horsepower, that's why the numbers are larger.

What he said. Refer to mreedohio's chrome project to see just how much oh can get out of the Kat 600 engine...its not much...1/4 mile between the two bike would be close, but the katana would likely start pulling away at about 100mph.

If it were me I would buy the Ninja, fix it and flip it and then put the profit into the Kat.

thats what I was going to try to do. I went and looked at the bike today. WAYY too much work. This guy layed this bike down so hard the footpegs snapped off and the frame was twisted.. Had to pass. I mean at least my Kat had good bones and ONLY 22k on the odometer...

I sat on the bike and I hate the way you sit straight up with no room to tuck.. i am only 5'8 175 and I felt crowded on it.
