  • Armored Air Jackets

So has anybody else here used the armored air jackets. I have one that i have just ordered new cartridges for. I was wearing one when i laid my bike down at high speeds. The accident resulted in me getting wrapped around a sign pole and my bike going in a ditch as a result of someone swerving into the oncoming lane forcing me into the grass.

The paramedics said they had never seen anybody walk away from an accident like this one let alone ride the bike home. I am a huge supporter of these products and have had two spills wearing them .

The vest/jacket works from a tether cable atatched to the bike. When you are ejected from the bike the cable is pulled and deploys an air bag inside the jacket to protect the torso area and has an inflatable neck chock to keep your neck stable during the wreck. Both times i wrecked with one of these my jacket puffed up like the michelin tire man before i ever touch the ground and kept my upper half safe.

Looking forward to hear others oppinions on these products.

I have the inexpensive one by armored air products and paid $200 when it first came out. Hit air has higher end products for over a grand as well.

I've seen them before but dismissed them as snake oil.

The only issue I see is jumping off the bike, walking about without detaching the tether and turning into a balloon. Where do you tether that thing on your Kat?

I would be curious if anyone else has used these as well. If they actually work I would have no problem spending the $300 on one.

It has a cable in a rubber sleeve which locks onto the frame under the seat and has a little buckle that your jacket locks into. And you wont deploy the airbag while stepping off the bike. I think stock they are set at 23 pounds of force to activate

Ill post a pic of the actual frame mount tonight if i can find a place to throw it on my streetfighter project

A friend of mine tried that device, but ultimately decided that wearing it was inconvenient. However, I don't know what was inconvenient about it. Maybe it was the attachment.

I think it is much more convenient then my plated and padded jackets. and it also prevents breaking ur neck with the neck chock.

yuck, no thanks. How's it supposed to fit over a leather jacket anyway?

I think his beef was with the bike attachment. I think he was also giving in to peer pressure because he rode a Harley at the time, and as you know, Harley riders are not into safety gear.

Wow, first time seeing these. Looks like a great thing to have on if you hit the ground. Glad you're still around to tell us about them!

Hit-Air has real nice systems and i believe they have lowers as well. but there purpose is to protect your internal organs and your spinal column. Honestly as long as they are protected a broken leg is nothing compared to a severed spinal column where you will be paralyzed at best. The armored air jackets company sells 2 products a vest and a full jacket while hit-air sell tons of different models.

and when you go down you only have to replace a CO2 cartridge. there is also a real nice video of a guy laying down a busa at 200+ on the strip wearing one and walking away from the accident. Ill have to see if i can find it though. And the attachment is real easy. Quicker than a seat belt to attach and quick disconnect.

I'd be 'that guy' that forgets to detach and ends up riding home looking like the Michelin man.

I wonder if you can wear it under your jacket and it still inflate if needed.

it takes a good amount of force to activate it. 28lbs of force actually. and if it is activated you can deflate it by pulling the cartridge out.

and it is dangerous to wear inside of a jacket. If the jacket is to tight then the force of the airbag will actually constrict you by inflating inside the jacket.
