  • 01 GSXF 600 Dies after 30 mins

Man I hope you guys can help me.. Im working on a 2001 600 Katana USA model. This is the problem. After it runs with no problems it will just shut off. The only light left on is the oil light in the dash. The neautral light goes out. I loose voltage on the orange/white and the orange/black wires to the run and starter buttons. With the key on and jumping the starter relay the bike will turn over but will not start. After it cools for around 20 mins voltage is back, dash is on and it starts and runs till it shuts off again in around 30 mins. Does this bike have a circut that will stop the engine if the oil is too hot or too thin as in not enough oil pressure ? And what is that relay next to the fuses for ? Thanks in advance Ron.

There's no thermal overload that I know of, but there is an oil pressure sensor.

If you go to the wiki (http://katriders.com/wiki) you can search for service manual to get you started.

I'm thinking there must be a wire rubbed through somewhere that is contacting the frame or something...

If it's always after about 30 minutes when it gets hot, then it sure seems heat is the problem. I'd pull the fairings and check the harness for anywhere it may have rubbed through, but failing that I'd try to swap in a known good ignition box and see if that fixes it. As far as I know, there's no thermal shutdown or oil pressure shutdown on them.

Are you sure you're not having petcock issues? Something similar happened to me before when I had my gas dial set incorrectly (I had it set to RES but there was a weird slow leak or something).

I poured spot remover on my dog. Now he's gone.

cant be an electronic(ignition), wouldnt cause lights out

does the headlight work when it dies?

I am leaning towards a kill switch or key switch, more the key switch
