  • Stator to R/R issues.

So I am now at the point of plumbing in the electricals. I have started at the side panel and attached all the necessary devices and connected those to the wiring harness. I have run into a problem with the wires from the stator.

There are , of course, three. White with green tracer, yellow, white with blue tracer. Now the yellow and white with blue obviously connect to the R/R directly ( to the wires coded the same colours) but I can't see where to connect the, white/green to. The only thing seems to be to a green wire with white tracer that runs through the harness. The R/R only has yellow, white/blue, white/red, red and black/white coming from it.

On the GS forum, some of the guys have mentioned that the white green goes (via the harness) up to the right hand switch controls then directly back down to the white /red tracer into the R/R. They suggest short circuiting this by connecting the white/green from the stator directly to the white/red.

My manual does not show this but does show the white red (from the stator) running to the right control and being in contact with the white green at a sliding switch marked "lights". I pulled apart the controls and this is indeed how it is.

As I don't see a green/white tracer in the harness when refering to my diagram I wonder if this a mistake and should actually be white/green tracer.

Anyone know or have any ideas if this is what I connect that third lead from the stator to?

I appreciate any and all ideas.

    Cheers,

Well having spent the better part of today trying to figure this out ( with the help of many friends on the GS Resources site) I think I might have it figured.

Firstly there is a bit of confusion as the stator lead shows as Green/white tracer while it actually is white with a green tracer. There is a green/white tracer line running in the harness and where it joins the right handlebar controls it becomes white/green. It connects to the white/red via a switch and shoots back down to the R/R.

So it seems the yellow and white/blue lines from the stator go directly to the R/R the other goes via the path mentioned above. I'll plug it into the green/white and hopefully things will work properly.

    I'll let you know.

An update on this for anyone else pondering it. The path of that third stator lead is as I mentioned i.e. via the right hand control back down to the R/R. I did plumb mine in that way and so far I have no charging. I had put on all new connectors and the wiring looks good but with only getting the engine running yesterday I have not had an opportun ity to trouble shoot. I don't even know if the stator is producing voltage

The consensus on the GS board is to plumb directly from the stator to the R/R and cut out this loop which serves no purpose. at the first opportunity I will do that and will install an additional ground lead from the R/R to the battery. this is another must do mode as the Zuk R/Rs are notoriously not well grounded which causes faulty charging.

I'll keep you informed of how it goes.

      Cheers,
