  • How do I get the fender off

I am trying to take the front fender (the one that contours over the wheel) off of my bike and I took out the four outer screws that attach it to the forks and then I tried to unscrew the 3 or 4 that attach the plate to the fender. It seems that the screws are just turning b/c the nuts on the underside of the fender are just spinning at the same time. Do I have to take the front wheel off to get the fender off, is there another trick to getting it off without removing the wheel or am I just going crazy? I looked in the manual, but I couldn't find anything on how to remove it. Thanks ahead of time.

On the pre's you have to remove the front wheel. To remove the front wheel you also have to remove the calipers. This gets you access to all 4 nuts. I assume the posts will be the same.

On my 05' there are two bolts with square nuts on that back that just fall out when you unscrew them. You don't have to take the wheel off or the calipers to get the fender off the front. Really easy actually. I'll go home tonight and check it out again and get back to you with exact location of the bolts

I took a look at it, I can get the brace off of the forks, but the screws that hold the brace to the fender are rusted together with the nuts underneath. I'm going to have to take the wheel off in order to get a good hold on the nuts to break them loose.

NO! DO NOT REMOVE THE FRONT WHEEL! Just use one of those smaller socket wrenches...It won't be easy or fun, and you may want someone with smaller hands, but my bolts were rusted on and I just used a socket wrench underneath the fender to hold the bolts in place while I turned the screws from the top.

I done it both ways... removing the wheel, not removing the wheel. Not removing the wheel and trying to reach up under there with a small wrench always ends up being extreamly frustrating for me, and taking more time then if I had just went ahead and dropped the wheel down out of the way.

It only takes 2 mins to pull the axle bolt and calipers off and drop the wheel down a little.

Agree, Taking the front off isn't too hard, when I was re-painting the bike a few months ago had to go that way and found out my axle was bent. (Not surprised, previous owner weighed about a buck 50 x2 and with his girlfriend on I would say a grand total of almost 500lbs...
