  • Should I stay or should I go?

Sooo- I went and rode that ZX11 today. I gotta say I'm not thrilled with the outdated front end, but apart from that IT'S EFFIN AWESOME! Acceleration was incredible, I can actually foresee something of a learning curve to keep it within reasonable proximity to the posted speed limits around here. Although it's heavy it dealt with the curves handily. It actually felt significantly more stable than the Kat. I'll say this for the Kat though, it seems to "jump" into the turns a little more quickly. The Ninja is much more relaxed in high speed turns than the Kat though. I've always thought the Kat was a little "twitchy" actually in turns. It'll need updated lenses on the front and rear (still sporting old school amber lenses). Probably a set of Yoshi's- but other than that I don't think I'd do much else to her. There may be a problem with finding parts though. A quick scan of Fleabay netted few results of any kind.

It's EXTREMELY clean. I couldn't find a scratch; literally- could...not...find...a...scratch. It doesn't have any of the creaks, groans or shutters that I was expecting of a ten year old bike. It felt very solid. The riding position was almost identical to the Kat. You're more aware of the tank on the Ninja, but I was not noticably more/less upright. Anyhow- it's from the same dealer where I picked up the Kat and they're offering it to me at $3300. Whatta you guys think?

      Work on that dealer

NADA says average RETAIL is between $2220 low & $2780 high... so I don't think the dealer is doing anything for you.

wow, kbb has it at $2855 trade in and $4160 Retail (1999 model)....way different than NADA apparently.

Not sure what "real world" prices are, but if it's a truely pristine bike and well cared for, I think that should get a small premium anyways.

I'd do it if you're looking for a cruise missile. It looks like a nice bike, and a good next step coming off of a Kat.

Sure you didn't look at the ZX11C, or the ZZR1100?

Edit- yeah, NADA does say that. Go figure. Kelly is way higher. The going price on Fleabay is way higher too.

Honestly it's kicking my butt trying to figure out what to do. I love the way the Kat looks/feels. But that Ninja is just plain basa$$. It is, however, a little "senior citizeny" in appearance.

Another sticking point. The ZX12's are hella uncomfortable for the kind of riding I do. At least twice a week during the fall/winter/spring I'm doing 250 miles a day. That Ninja is just as comfy as the Kat. As far as more modern bikes go (at least w/Kaws) the SS's are too uncomfortable and the ST bikes are, eh, senion citizeny...Why couldn't they have just split the headlights and painted it yellow and black? >=o)

Then there's the poo load of money that I just spent on chrome for the Kat. Bleeeeeh.

The ZX11 is a nice bike.

I've been considering a ZZR1200 as a replacement bike. I suppose it could be considered the replacement to the ZX11, aka ZZR1100. But they are nowhere near the price of that ZX11.

I might be crazy, but I love the ergo's of my '01 R1... I'm 6' and weigh 200lbs+/- and I've gotten use to the riding position...

I suggest trying one out, that is, a 2000 or 2001 model... the seating position got worse as they got newer...

Is that bike at Kurtz Kawasaki? I think I saw it sitting there when I test rode their R1 Raven

Nah- at Keystone in Duncansville. Oddly, they have a preowned R1 for sale there too though.

                        >=o)

Edit- just an update. It doesn't look good for buying the ZX. I love the way it performs, but the styling is a problem. The bigger problem is the lack of aftermarket parts. There are no exhaust options that maintain the dual pipes (a big prob for me). Corbin stopped making their two up seats for the ZX11. It just seems like it's going to be to much of a pita to get the thing where I want it to be. Alas...

it would have to be pretty old to fulfill his needs, and who wants a 10 year old bike?
