  • Rider Down

A couple of night ago, there was this serious bike accident. I didn't know the rider, but I talked to a dude who did, and he said the guy ALWAYS wore his helmet, and that one particular night, he had a buddy of his painting his helmet, so he went out helmetless and a suv hit him. He had to be airlifted to the hospital. He resulted in serious head injuries and internal bleeding. Hell, im gonna wear my helmet to wal-greens around the corner every time! You'll never know.

Always was curious to see what the fuss was about, so one day a long time ago i went for a blast down a back road with no helmet. What a waste of time and i can't see why the hell anyone would find it appealing. Deafening wind in your ears, high velocity bugs, and turn your head, Bam, there goes the prized sunnies off down the road. Never again. Even the open face helmets are a waste of time, wind burn, dried up snot, bugs again.

I hear ya, can't stand anything other than full-face. That sucks though for the guy who got hit, the one day he didnt have his helmet....

I love my full face helmet. Mainly because I wear glasses and I don't have to take them off when putting on or removing my helmet.

In Ohio, it is not a law that you have to wear a helmet, it is the riders choice. (I am not sure about laws for first year riders or riders with a "temporary" license, as in passed the written test only, but not the closed course skill riding test.) I have rode without a helmet a few times, it is scary how loud the motorcycle is!! You can hear everything the engine is doing. So now, I always wear a helmet

florida requires anyone under 21 to wear a helmet, and if you're over, you're supposed to have $10,000 in health insurance i believe in order to qualify to ride without a helmet, but at the same time they'll never pull a rider over purely because they're without a helmet unless they have strong reason to believe they're under 21... such as a special white and red plate saying 'under 21'. even though i have one of those lovely red and white plates, i still wouldn't go without a helmet. i've taken a spin down the street without a helmet, and sure if felt nice... at low speeds... i can't imagine riding highway without a helmet. all it takes is that one time, and something to happen.

That is sad for the rider, and it is the same kind of luck I would have. The one day I don't use a helmet would be the one day I got hit. And you know what they say about car accidents, more accidents happen when a person is a mile or two from home then at any other time. I would bet that holds true on a bike as well. When I was a dumb kid I used to ride behind my hubby on a bike without a helmet. Was a blast. We even did 110 mph once. Cool, until I ran into a wasp and it stung me on my cheek bone right below my eye. Being the big sissy that I am, I said never again. Who knows, I hope it never happens, but that wasp just may be the cause of my life being saved one day.
sigpic Like usual, It's all my husband's fault... After insisting that his woman should try out his yellow Kat, I just had to get my own Kat! I really should quit listening to his brillant ideas.

as an adult i should be able to make my own choice and thats the way i'll vote. its up to the adults to look after the minors, under 21 mandatory (unless your in the military - Instant adult) and thats the way i'll vote.

Some days i wear one, some days i don't. But it does seem that the accidents WILL always happen when your NOT wearing the gear. Murphys Law???

sad news antime anyone goes down. Heres hope for a speedy recovery and a fast rebuild.
