I am FINALY reassembling my pre-600 [thanks to Special K & Ebay], and I was wondering if someone who has seen both the stock ignition advancer and the +5 degree advancer could tell me how to tell the difference? This motor has had some work done to it [before me] and I wouldn't be to supprised if it already has a +5, but how do I tell which one I have?

Only the Euro-kat got a suzuki advancer.
So I'll bet that is you have a suzuki part it is stock.
An after market one should have the company name somewhere..

ditto BP, factory, vance & hines etc.

Also.....this might help: The factory ones are grey - just plain steel. The old Vance & Hines ones were all Black and said V & H on them

Not sure, but Factory Pro almost certainly stamps theirs.........and I'd be willing to bet they are heat treated (Black) also.

thanks for the pics...Mine looks like the aftermarket one not like stock pic at all! It is marked Denzo -1900? it is round w/2 holes. Can anyone identify if this Denzo is aftermarket?
Thanks. Sharp Shooter

No, it's stock.

The one from my bandit motor looks exactly like the gold factory pro one from above except it's silver like the denzo one, but it is stock, just different shapes, no advance though.

thanks for your help! I believed it to be stock, but now I'm sure.
Just took off flarings for the first time, and took a look while I was doing my sparkplugs & the oil change. Went w/ Amsoil synthetic 10w/40, I like it so far, runs much better! 8)

I started to pull off the cover to do the ignition advancer. I wasn't sure if there was oil inside or not, but as I loosened the screws oil started to drip out. Is this something I should do during an oil change or is there just a little oil in there not to worry about?

no, there is just a lttle oil in there, not enough to warrant a change

IF the dripping doesn't stop with the cover off, then you may want to double check to see if the oil pressure sensor got damaged at some point, but there is often a small bit of oil under the cover (comes in as a mist and condenses).

First, find out if you need one....Canadian Kats don't need em (but you may have a US model)....check the decal under your seat...I think it's on the bike and not the underside of the seat....there will be the number of degrees BTDC indicated....mine states 9 BTDC....we're already advanced.
