I have read about just opening air screws and then schimming needles. What are you useing to shim needles & how thick of schims? Thanks
Washers in the electrical section of Radio Shack . Little ones close to the size of the clips that's in there . Buy a pack of them and go to town .

for a stage one you can find out what size the jets that come in the kit and just buy the jets from denniskirk. stage two or three wouild be the same but you would need the washers to shim.

Do you have a pre or a 98+?
Check out the holeshot kit
That kit uses a larger main jet, shims, and a 5* ignition advancer.

MXG286 All I did on my Ninja 500 was open pilot screws and it made big difference. If you go to Yoshimura web sight and look at the ? section that is what they recomend for there slip on and give a appromax size shim. I am just tring to figure out what to use for shim. It will be trial and era. Stock bikes are lean from factory so if you richen them a little they should run better but remember it doesn't take much. I'm sure irvens kit is the best but if your on a budget you should be able to get some improvement without spending much. Old times did it this way all the time before dyno exhaust snifers ext.

Seems to be working well for me so far. Don't have the money for a jet kit soon right now.
