Should fit no problem. I think its just like swapping a 98-> Kat wheels to pre-98's.
Might make sure the brake rotor is the same bolt pattern and such......I know the wheel itself it wider, but shouldn't have any probs.....might check with BraadaJim, CyberPoet, Special K, Speedee and such, they are all very knowledgable about what swaps.My sig is boring. -

Been looking at the swap myself again. Near as I can tell the 96/97-99ish era 600 wheel is a 17x4.5 and will fit and has the swept pattern to match your front. Make sure you get the rotor, and cush. Not sure what the axle size is so you may need to put Kat bearings in it...good time to switch to AllBalls... or the dealer will charge you about $20 for a set with spacer. Also not sure which combo you will need of cush and spacers but if it does swap in like the 98+ you only need the wheel and rotor, the cush and spacers will need to be Kat.Comment
